EBCAM announces new member: the Finnish Business Council West Africa

The European Business Council for Africa and the Mediterranean (EBCAM) is pleased to announce a new member, the Finnish Business Council West Africa (FBC West Africa).
The Finnish Business Council West Africa - formally registered as an Association in 2011- represents the Finnish private companies operating in West Africa. The organization aims at establishing relations between Finnish companies working in West Africa, promoting their export efforts, opening doors to new African opportunities and strengthening existing economic relations. FBC West Africa is a member of the Global FinnCham Network of trade associations, Chambers of Commerce and guilds that encourage the internationalization of Finnish companies.
UNIDO replies to EBCAM's letter
Having established an important partnership and communicaiton with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), and in the context of our partnership, EBCAM received a positive response to its letter that addressed to the Director General of UNIDO Mr. Gerd Müller.

The European Business Council for Africa (EBCAM) actively participated in the 1st DG TRADE’s Dialogue with the European Private Sector on Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) online on 19 October 2022.
EBCAM supported this initiative as an opportunity to discuss constraints, and needs that European Businesses face when investing in / trading with EPA countries, particularly in Africa.
EBCAM President Etienne Giros stressed out four main axes that the European Union should aim to focus to facilitate private sector’s investment in the African continent:
- Financing the private sector and diminish loan costs, guarantee risks and give funding access to SMEs
- Revision of the initiative on EU Human Rights Due Diligence Legislation for companies when they have to compete new actors in the region who are not subject to these regulations
- Simplification of the EU procedures with less bureaucracy and information campaigns to increase the knowledge of EU companies and effectiveness of projects
- Regulation of the visa issue for African residents who want to visit the EU

The European Business Council for Africa and the Mediterranean (EBCAM) announces the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS Business Forum).
The OACPS Business Forum - officially launched on 21 January 2022 as one of the five 'Subsidiary and Consultative Organs' foreseen under the Georgetown Agreement - represents private sector organisations from 79 member states to promote dialogue and collaboration between OACPS Governments, regional integration institutions and the private sector at all levels as well as contribute to the formulation and implementation of private sector development policies and promotion knowledge sharing and information dissemination on private sector development issues.

A quick update in on EBCAM in 2022 so far
EBCAM has been very active so far in 2022, being able to attend many events in person, including those of our members, after spending a long time meeting the EBCAM family online. These have presented invaluable opportunities to not only gain insight into the issues of the day in African economies, identifying and discussing, amongst stakeholders, opportunites for investments for the European private sector, but also a great chance to reconnect in-person with valued members of our network throughout Europe and Africa. We are delighted to have had a very active events schedule so far this year and look forward to the upcoming events and forums that this year still has to offer!

The European Business Council for Africa and the Mediterranean (EBCAM) announces the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the European Union Business Group Tanzania.
The European Business Group Tanzania was formed in 2014 and is a strategic partner for improving Tanzania’s business climate and promoting trade and investment between Europe and Tanzania. The European Business Group Tanzania is supported by the EU, its Member States and EFTA Diplomatic Missions and is intended to act as a structured association in support of the European private sector operating in the United Republic of Tanzania. This group allows firms to exchange information and experience and carry out advocacy and lobby activities together under one common “European businesses” banner.

The European Business Council for Africa and the Mediterranean (EBCAM) announces the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the European Union - Zambia Business Club (EUZBC).
The EUZBC – formally registered as an Association in 2016 – is a business association made up of European Union and Zambian companies with the objective of increasing trade and investment between Zambia and the European Union and to contribute to a conducive business environment in Zambia. EUZBC allows firms to exchange information and experience and carry out advocacy and lobby activities together. It is supported by the European Union Diplomatic Missions and plays an important role in

EBCAM had the pleasure of attendding Invest Africa's event The Africa Debate 2022 on 06 July, London’s leading investment summit focused on Africa,hosting global businesses, private and public investment bodies, thought leaders and policy makers, who shared their perspectives on how to mobilise finance, people and resources towards sustainable economic development.
More than 500 investors, market leaders and senior decision-makers from across energy, finance, PE funds, professional services, government agencies, logistics, technology, infrastructure, retail, real estate, construction and leisure are met to:

EBCAM at NABC's Flagship event - Africa Works 2022: Innovation for Resilient Growth
EBCAM had the pleasure of attendding NABC's flagship event Africa Works 2022 on 28 June in The Hague with this year's focus being on innovation for resilient growth.
Africa Works! Conference is the flagship conference of the Netherlands-African Business Council (NABC). The NABC is the leading organisation for trade and investment facilitation for Africa in the Netherlands. The NABC's purpose is to inform, inspire, catalyse and connect businesses with Africa's opportunities and to assist businesses in making confident decisions about when, where and how to do business in Africa. The NABC today leads a network of nearly 250 engaged and diverse members and has access to a community of over 10,000 African and European businesses, institutes, government entities and others interested in doing business in Africa.
The event kicked off with keynote speeches by high-level speakers, including by Rosmarijn Fens, Managing Director of NABC, and was followed by workshops on a sector-specific topics, country focus sessions, an investor session and finally a networking reception to finish the day.
EBCAM at CIAN's Flagship Event - Forum Afrique 2022 - Second Hybrid Edition
EBCAM had the pleasure of attending CIAN's flagship event in Paris on 23 June - the Forum Afrique 2022. EBCAM's President Etienne Giros, also President of CIAN, spoke at the opening and closing of the high-level event as well as conducting face-to-face interviews with invited guests during sessions.
After a successful first edition marked by the presence of many African and French personalities, the French Council of Investors in Africa (CIAN) and l'Opinion were once again able to join forces to defend an ambitious and dynamic vision of the continent.
The African continent is back on the path of growth in 2021 and faces opportunities and challenges. At the heart of this Africa Forum lay the rise of new cities, digital and fintech industries, the financing of innovation ecosystems, the development of industrialisation and many other topics that were tackled during presentations by the panellists and keynote speakers.
