The European Business Council for Africa

22-24 January 2025

Rome

The European Business Council for Africa (EBCAM) participated in the Italia Africa Business Week in Rome, held under the auspices of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As a partner of the event, we were honoured to contribute to discussions on fostering cooperation and sustainable development in Africa.

EBCAM’s Secretary General, Alexandros Spachis, was a speaker in the panel “Release G20, Convert the Debt, and Relaunch Cooperation.” Among the distinguished panelists was the President of Link2007 Roberto Rodolfi, the umbrella organisation of Italian NGOs, reflecting the inclusive and collaborative spirit of the event.

In his intervention, our Secretary General highlighted the critical need for sustainable development in Africa and the essential role of the private sector in achieving this goal. He stressed that governmental and international efforts alone are insufficient and that mobilizing private investment is key. Additionally, he underscored the importance of creating a business-friendly environment, strengthening the rule of law, and fostering fiscal stability to attract long-term investments. Mr. Spachis also emphasized the need for greater involvement from global financial institutions to support private sector-led projects and reaffirmed Africa’s vast potential as the next global business frontier.

We extend our sincere thanks to the organisers, including Cleophas Adrien Dioma, for hosting this impactful event and providing a platform for meaningful dialogue on Africa’s development.
