Who: African Natural Resources Centre (ANRC), African Development Bank Group; Infrastructure and Urban Development Department

The African Development Bank Group’s African Natural Resources Center (ANRC), in collaboration with the Infrastructure and Urban Development Department, will host a webinar on 30 March 2022 to present the findings of a study on “African Ports and the Blue Economy Nexus: Institutional, Policy and Governance Arrangements.”

In recent years, the Blue Economic concept has developed as a sound paradigm for the comprehensive and sustainable management of marine and coastal areas and their natural resources. One of its fundamental principles is the coherent and optimized coexistence of all sectors of activity while preserving the quality of ecosystem goods and services long term. Ports play an essential role in the development of the Blue Economy as the interface between maritime and terrestrial spaces.

The study by the ANRC provides an analytical framework to investigate the dynamics for institutionalizing environmental sustainability in African ports. It also assesses how the integration of the Blue Economy concept is being constrained or enabled in the ports.

The webinar will bring together policymakers, ports authorities, port management associations, regional economic communities, the private sector, and development partners active in port activities and the Blue Economy.
