Benin has opened up strongly to foreign investment in recent years. Thanks to significant economic policy reforms, the partner country of the G20 Compact with Africa initiative offers business opportunities in numerous sectors, including logistics, digitalisation and agribusiness. The processing industry in particular is booming! 45 kilometres from the capital Cotonou is a 1,200-hectare special economic zone, specifically for agricultural products. In the course of the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), this is likely to gain further importance. However, the West African country is dependent on the commitment of the private sector to drive forward the transformation to a sustainable agricultural and food economy.
