Brussels, Belgium

On 7 May 2025 from 16:00 to 17:30 CEST, ECDPM together with the FAO Liaison Office with the European Union and Belgium, will convene a roundtable discussion on EU-Africa partnership on agrifood systems. This event will serve as a catalyst for dialogue and cooperation for a transition towards more sustainable, resilient, equitable and inclusive food systems.

Additionally, this initiative comes at a pivotal moment ahead of the AU-EU Agriculture Ministerial Conference and the foreseen EU-AU Summit later this year. This roundtable discussion is closed-door and by invitation only.

The evolving dynamics of global food security, climate resilience, and sustainable agrifood systems underscore the critical need for collaborative efforts between the European Union (EU) and Africa. Against the backdrop of pressing challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss, there is a growing imperative to foster partnerships that promote inclusive and sustainable agricultural practices across both regions. The roundtable discussion will feature a keynote address by Mr. Haile-Gabriel, FAO’s Assistant Deputy-General and Regional Representative for Africa, leveraging his extensive experience in agricultural development and food security across Africa. Through his address, Mr. Haile-Gabriel will highlight FAO work on agrifood systems in Africa, with a particular focus on current projects and EU funded initiatives. After which ECDPM will present their work in collaboration with FAO in Africa on agrifood systems.
