Africa’s food systems face the interlinked challenges of conflict, climate change and Covid-19. Right now, at least 130 million people across Africa are in crisis levels of food insecurity.
But the continent is also full of opportunities: Africa’s food systems will be transformed by its youth and urbanisation, its uncultivated arable land, availability of indigenous knowledge, and its expanding food economy.
Partnerships with European actors are one route to maximising the potential of these opportunities. Smart policy choices, sustainable investments and open knowledge exchange will be critical for achieving long-lasting food security for both Africa and Europe. But tension can also exist between the two continents’ approaches.
Join us as our panel explores these issues:
- What are the objectives and priorities of African partners?
- What are the roles of Europe in Africa’s future food systems?
- Where are the opportunities for cooperation and the areas of tension between the two continents?
