The European Business Council for Africa and the Mediterranean (EBCAM) was founded in 1973 by seven European private sector associations, representing investors and operators in Africa as a non-profit organisation (AISBL) based in Brussels, Belgium.
Through its members EBCAM today represents some 4,000 European companies with interests in the African continent, from the Maghreb to South Africa, and representing hundreds of thousands of employees. Their activities cover the complete range of commerce and industry, including agriculture, mining, transport, banking and the service sectors.
EBCAM brings together European investors and other operators engaged in economic activity in the African continent and it works for a close cooperation between the European private sector and African countries, in particular the private sector. It is the only organisation that comprehensively represents the range of business activities undertaken in Africa by European companies.
EBCAM embraces major European Associations of private sector focussed on development, business, trade and investment with African countries. It follows regularly the EU development policy and actions, as well as the foreign trade scene in Brussels and - thanks to reciprocal agreements - in Washington and the whole of Africa.
EBCAM has a Presidency rotating annually, chaired by the president of the national association in charge. From July 1st 2016 to June 30th 2017, the Norwegian-African Business Association ensures the presidency
